About Jackrabbit Counseling

Jackrabbit Counseling is a small, inclusive practice founded by Amanda Akers from a multicultural, feminist perspective. I understand that life is hard for lots of reasons, including living in systems that weren’t built for all of us.

That doesn’t mean we can’t dig into the mess and build the life we want — one that nurtures and supports all the fantastic parts of our selves.

Whatever brought you here (anxiety, a challenging transition, unresolved trauma or loss) you don’t have to figure it out alone. You’ll be met exactly as you are and supported with grounded techniques, humor, and heart along the way.

How I Can Help

45 and 60 minute sessions / Ages 9 and Up

Women’s Issues

Every stage of being a woman has its own weight. From the teenage years through menopause, we'll find your power in every chapter.

Peri/Menopause

Hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep trouble, oh my! We'll make sense of the science so you understand what's happening in your brain and body and can feel at home again.

In-Between Years

The teen years, young adulthood, the empty nest, a chapter you didn’t choose. Transitions unsettle even the steadiest among us. We’ll help you find your footing and move forward with clarity.

Anxiety

When your mind won’t stop racing and your body won’t settle, everyday life gets exhausting. Together we’ll build real tools to help you feel grounded, steady, and at home in your own skin.

Trauma & Grief

Trauma and loss leave their mark on the body and the nervous system, not just the memory. We’ll honor the real weight of what happened while helping you move through the world more freely again.

All Kinds of Minds

Every gifted kid, neurodivergent adult, LGBTQIA+ individual, multicultural family, and differently-abled person deserves a therapist who sees their whole self. This is a welcoming space, built on respect for who you are and how you're wired.

Why Jackrabbit?

Across many traditions, the hare is a threshold creature, moving between the seen and the unseen, the conscious and the unconscious. Resilient, resourceful, and adaptable, the jackrabbit is perfectly at home in its body. It stays hyper-attuned to its surroundings, ready to respond when it needs to, and just as able to settle once the danger has passed.

Entering therapy takes courage, and just showing up is a huge step. Think of the jackrabbit as a symbol for the parts of yourself you haven't fully met yet, and the quiet wisdom that's been there all along, even if it hasn't felt that way. Healing is about integration. We'll work on letting the different parts of you move together instead of pulling apart. As mind and body, intellect and instinct come into step, you move through the world with more ease: alert but not reactive, grounded but not stuck.

That's what it means to move like you belong here.
